Language Interpretation Services

Language Interpretation

IWSO language Interpretation service ensures accurate communication between Ottawa’s legal, social, health, community agencies and their multilingual clients. Interpretation services are offered 24 hours per day and 7 days per week and include: face to face interpretation; message relay; telephone interpreting; and group interpretation.

The service is FREE for victims or violence. For other language interpretation services there is a fee.

Language Interpretation Training

IWSO provides Interpretation training to individuals with the skills, tools and knowledge to deliver a professional interpreter service. Trainees must be fluent in English, and a second or third language and are required to pass a language test (ILSAT or CILISAT), before taking the training.

There is a non-refundable fee of $100.00* for the test and a payment of $350.00* for the 100 hour training program.

Translation Service

Translation of documents is provided to individuals, agencies and service providers. This service is offered in a limited number of languages and is done by translators, some of whom are certified.

Call IWSO at (613) 720-3145 for more information on the languages available for the translation service and the fee schedule.

Cross Cultural Education and Training

Training program for service providers to heighten their awareness to the cultural differences of immigrant and visible minority women and to work towards the provision of appropriate and accessible services.
