Nominations for Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) Community Awards, 2009

Ottawa, Ontario: Nominations for the 2009 IWSO Community Awards is now open.

IWSO Community Awards pays tribute to exceptional women in Ottawa and the surroundings for their contributions in the community in supporting immigrant women, children and refugees overcome obstacles and barriers particularly domestic abuse and violence.

In 2009, IWSO will acknowledge 21 women. All twenty-one community leaders will be acknowledged and three will be honoured during IWSO Coming of Age: The Next 20 Years Gala to held on November 12th, 2009 at Chateau Laurier, 1 Rideau Street from 6:00-9:00 PM.

According to IWSO Executive Director, Lucya Spencer:

“Every day, hundreds of women in Ottawa work tirelessly and without recognition, most often in the face of great adversity and challenges, to ensure immigrant women and children feel safe and happy. These women offer support to immigrant women to gain skills and tools needed to integrate and eventually contribute positively in their communities”

Often, there is no reward or recognition for these outstanding women.

IWSO Community Awards is a wonderful opportunity for us to publicly acknowledge and most importantly, thank them for their efforts and tell them, that they are very much appreciated.

If you know a woman who has made a difference to the lives of immigrant women, children and refugees in your community please nominate her.

Nominations for the 2009 IWSO Community Awards close on October 8, 2009. Please see the attached nomination process and nomination forms or visit our website at http://www.immigrantwomenservices.com to download one.
