Boyd McBride & Barbara MacKinnon Donor Story

I am sure that everyone reading this has probably wanted to ‘change the world’ somehow. I know, Barbara and I did… and we still do.

After two careers spent in community service organizations, we know the challenges not-for profits face. And we know that no one person, no matter how gifted or dedicated, will change the world, or even our small corner of it, except by working together with others who share that goal.

For us, now in retirement, that has meant volunteering with, and giving to, community based organizations like Immigrant Women Services Ottawa.  IWSO is aligned with our goals and is serving a community that might otherwise fall between the cracks.

It has become one of our favourite organizations to support.

Barbara knows it well.  Having worked professionally with IWSO, she was always appreciative of its unique and critically important services offered to women who have immigrated to Canada – and by extension – to their families.

IWSO is literally ‘changing the world’ for hundreds of immigrant families each and every year.

As we’ve watched their good work continue, even in the face of Covid 19 challenges, I’ve been reminded of Margaret Mead’s famous words:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

We are proud to count ourselves among those supporting IWSO.  If you are reading this, I suspect you share that pride.

We know that, like us, you will want to encourage others to help make Ottawa a safer, more nurturing place for immigrant women and their families to grow and prosper.  And if you have dollars available at the end of the month, consider joining us as a new monthly donor to IWSO.
