Position: Manager, Crisis Intervention and Counselling Services

Job Type: Full-Time, One-year contract (35 hours/week) with possibility of extension

Salary: $54 – $57K/year

Reports to: The Executive Director

Position Summary

The Manager of Crisis Intervention and Counselling Services is responsible for the management and supervision of the crisis department, crisis counselors, transitional housing support worker, therapeutic counselor, and placement students.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supervises all staff in the crisis counseling department, provides direction (collectively and individually), and ensures that appropriate professional case management practices are followed, and files are properly maintained.
  • Establishes and organizes procedures of crisis support for clients of the agency.
  • Conducts annual performance evaluation of the Crisis department staff, identifies and/or supports their training needs, and ensures adequate training is provided.
  • Conducts accurate assessment interviews to identify client’s needs and concerns.
  • Provides short/long term counseling support to abused women referred by Crisis Workers (Counsellors)

and external sources.

  • Refers clients to specialized community counseling services as required.
  • Prepares service reports as per funding agreements and/or when required by the Executive Director and/or Board of Directors.
  • Develops and submits annual program plans and budget to the Executive Director, and presentations to the Program Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Proactively identifies potential funding sources and prepares funding proposals with some lead time for review and refinement as required. Works closely with the Executive Director in negotiations with funders.
  • Informs the Executive Director of issues requiring interventions, advocacy, and/or policy development.
  • Attends Managers’ Meetings and works closely with the management team to develop long term plans

and proactive budgeting, coordination, control evaluation of IWSO activities.

  • Identifies priority issues for discussion at Managers’ and/or Board of Directors’ meetings.
  • Works closely and cooperatively with the other Managers in the agency.
  • Attends Board and Committee Meetings when requested by the Board of Directors.
  • Participates in the recruitment and hiring of new staff.
  • Liaises and consults with other service providers in the Ottawa region.
  • Represents the agency on external committees and boards as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in social work or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 2-4 years supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Solid problem solving, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal communication, organizational, and writing skills.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting immigrants, refugees, and/or racialized women.
  • Experience with program development and implementation.
  • Understands the various forms of violence against women.
  • Knowledge of different types of abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, war trauma, workplace violence, and human trafficking.
  • Fluency in English is required, French and a third language is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience of computer applications and database software, video conferencing, e- mail, and other work-related software required.
