The Telus Friendly Future Foundation supports Children Who Witness Violence with a donation of $20,000

Ottawa, ON – December 10, 2021… Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) announces the receipt of a donation of $20,000 from the Telus Friendly Future Foundation™ to support the IWSO Children Who Witness Violence Program.

Melissa Day, Community Board Member for the Ottawa Region of the Telus Friendly Future Foundation said, “The work IWSO has been doing in the community for over 30 years is outstanding and to be commended.  The Foundation believes that it is important to reach out to children to provide them with the tools and skills to handle life’s future challenges in healthy ways.  The children who witness violence program led by IWSO, will teach children these essential skills and the Foundation is proud to lend its support to IWSO for this program”.

In a statement thanking Telus Friendly Future Foundation for this generous donation, the IWSO Executive Director Mercy Lawluvi said, “We are excited to have been chosen by the Telus Friendly Future Foundation as a grant recipient for 2021. This grant will go a long way to increase our capacity and commitment to a successful implementation of the Children Who Witness Violence Program.  Knowing the Foundation supports IWSO as we strive to make Ottawa a better home for the women and children we serve is the encouragement that keeps our staff and Board committed to our mission”

Commenting on the grant, Josephine Basudde, manager of Crisis & Counselling services at IWSO also said “As the number of callers to our centre has increased due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, so has the number of children who have witnessed violence in the home. Thanks to today’s Grant of $20,000 from the Telus Friendly Futures Foundation, we will be able to support these vulnerable children adequately.”
