Ottawa, ON – September 10, 2021… Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) today announced that they have received a donation of $10,000 from The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company.  This donation will be used towards the capital cost of improvement to our office space at our Ottawa location.

Laura Salonia, Recovery Care Supervisor for The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company said, “On behalf of  Wawanesa, looking after one another is Wawanesa’s purpose and we’re thrilled to donate $10,000 towards IWSO.  We know the funds will help to upgrade your space where you work tirelessly to end all violence against women.”

“We are grateful to The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company for the support and encouragement shown by them in our endeavours to provide immigrant and racialized women and their families in the City of Ottawa and the surrounding area with the supports and tools to achieve their full potential as members of Canadian society.  The $10,000 has been specifically earmarked for capital costs that will significantly improve or office space for not only our staff but also the women and children we serve.” said Mercy Lawluvi, Executive Director of IWSO.

Thao Duong, Manager, Settlement and Integration Services said, “When staff and clients are able to return to IWSO office post Covid, the improvements will not only be more hygienic for the women we serve but the space will be more welcoming for the women who often come to us traumatized from the domestic abuse they have suffered here and abroad.

IWSO includes a multi-disciplinary team (crisis counsellors, professional translators, settlement and integration counsellors, and volunteers) offering comfort and support to immigrant and racialized women in Ottawa and the surrounding areas.
